Before Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer were the most popular festive friends around, there was Uncle Mistletoe. Chicago-based department store Marshall Field's created the jolly fictional character to accompany Saint Nick. So, it's no surprise that in-the-know Midwesterners stocked up on Uncle Mistletoe toys, ornaments, and books.
But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Though Uncle Mistletoe was beloved by both Marshall Field's shoppers and Christmas enthusiasts, he sadly fell into holiday oblivion in the early '50s.
