It may not feel like it now, but summer is just around the corner, which means it's time to get your pool party game face on. Between BBQs, birthday parties, and general hot weather fun, there are more than enough excuses to throw a festive family gathering this summer.
To that end, Pottery Barn Kids has collaborated with Peggy North, founder of Venice, CA-based party planning company Fire and Crème, to create a collection of playful summer party decor. Peggy has helped plan whimsical events for stylish celebs like Rachel Zoe, Molly Sims, and Jennifer Meyer, so she knows a thing or two about creating the perfect party atmosphere. We chatted with North about her collaboration with Pottery Barn Kids and her tips for creating the family-friendly summer soirees to remember.
What are your must-haves for a fabulous summer party?
"The basics for a fabulous summer party are ice cream and lemonade! Displaying treats in a fun way like the Fire and Crème for Pottery Barn Kids Flamingo Cake Stand is also a nice touch. If you have a pool add a few inflatables, they are so fun and playful - at the beach, a surfing party remains my favorite."
What’s the one thing every kids’ party needs?
"That’s a tough question! I would say fun and creative activities. A party is about the experience. We always try to think of how we can keep the kids engaged and often, simple is more fun! They love to be involved in activities where they create things themselves."
And what’s your advice for how hosts can also keep the adults happy at kids’ parties?
"Good food, good drinks and keep the kids busy! "
