This New Pottery Barn Kids Collection Is Adorable Yet So Very Chic
Celebrity stylists and fashion design team Emily Current and Meritt Elliott have created a new line that both kids and parents will love.
Emily Current and Meritt Elliott know a thing or two about style. The design team behind The Great is much beloved by celebs and fashionistas alike for their keen eye for easygoing chic. They previously launched the denim brainchild CURRENT/ELLIOTT, and have also worked with Kate Spade on a capsule collection of covetable handbags. Now they're back with a stylish new line for Pottery Barn Kids, their third collaboration with the brand. We spoke with the designers, both moms themselves, about the new collection, which strikes the perfect balance of being playful enough for baby and cool enough for parents. Read on for our Q&A with the talented duo, and be sure to check out the slideshow below for some of our favorite pieces, all available now.
What was your inspiration for your new Pottery Barn Kids collection?
"We wanted to create a little magical world that felt sweet and fun for the baby, but stylish and relevant for the mom. We designed two rooms- one in soft pinks and golds with little stars, and the other, more graphic, in blacks and whites with stripes and hearts. We wanted the balance of vintage inspired elements mixed with newer, unexpected pieces."
What are three of your favorite pieces from the new line?
"The Scattered Stars Crib Fitted Sheets, the Modern Wingback Rocker, and the Giraffe Complete Lamp."
You’re both young moms. How do you strike a balance between keeping your own homes stylish and child-friendly?
"We are big on cute storage bins that hold everything from toys to blankets and everything in between. We keep things neutral that can be mixed and matched, and opt for soft blankets and pillows that tell a delightful story and can be tossed around."
Much of the collection is in black and white. What made you choose this color combo, which is often thought of as very adult, for a kids' collection?
"The nursery is such a special place for the entire family, so we wanted it to feel cool and versatile for all. With black and white, you can layer in personal items, prints, colors and textures with ease and so much of it can live beautifully beyond just the nursery."
How would you describe your own decorating aesthetics and how did they influence this collection?
"We love anything that feels nostalgic from scattered stars and hearts to brass animal figurines. We love touches of gold, denim and stripes, and playful takes on classic pieces like an arrow- which is the base for a floor lamp- or a woven hamper with kitty ears. We designed things that we want in our own homes and make us smile."
