Many interior designers say if you’re looking for inspiration for your home, look no further than your closet. The addition of new home categories at Banana Republic this September has made that style journey even easier with their timeless home furnishings and accessories.
Over the last few years, our collective experience put our homes at the center of our worlds. I believe that also reinforced our need to invest in pieces of comfort and lasting quality. We partnered with the best manufacturers, makers, and artisans to create a line that is both timeless in style and enduring in quality, rigorously tested to ensure durability and performance.
“Just as our customers build wardrobes with BR foundation pieces, show personality through seasonal trends, and are inspired by the crave-ability of objects of desire—those stand-out items they simply have to have—BR Home provides those same elements,” says Aaron Rose, the Chief Experience Officer for Banana Republic.
Thanks to their experience in high quality textiles, venturing into furniture, premium bedding, rugs, pillows, and décor seemed like a natural extension of the brand’s ethos. Plus, the products in the collection offer transformative design power, allowing the customer to experiment and play, without having to make a major investment.
“Our first collection focuses on establishing a foundation for our future assortments, so we wanted the origin material and color palette to have reach, to be workable in many different households: buildable as we add new seasonal expressions, but still not exactly basic,” says Rose. “That led us to a rich natural palette of warm earthen hues and sensual textures—undyed natural wools, plush cotton cashmere, and organic cotton, sourced and created by skilled global artisans who specialize in the use of these elements.”
Banana Republic reached deep into its library of research and its established network to gather only the best artisans and craftspeople to create this home line. They were careful to balance where they could support the traditional craftsmanship of a community while also making a high-quality and fair-priced product. The result was a true global effort, featuring Moroccan rugs, hand-knotted with the finest wool by different artisans in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco to the Phoenix furniture collection sourced from woodcarvers on the island of Java, Indonesia, to sustainably sourced hardwood-framed sofas with bench-made upholstery from master craftspeople in North Carolina.
“As merchants who travel the world, we’re fortunate to see firsthand the beauty of handicraft, as well as meet the people behind the work, which greatly increases the value,” says Rose. “There’s a growing consumer base that wants to turn the clock back on quality—a return to something created with care and passion and skill— and forward on accessibility—home design with a modern worldview that works in any setting.”
This focus on high quality home goods and materials also encourages a more sustainable approach to design. The new BR Home collection features materials like organic and more sustainable cottons, undyed wools, hardwoods, and water-based finishes wherever possible. Using the finest quality materials produces heirloom quality goods that are built to last for years to come.
